How to Generate an eBRC on ICEGATE
- Log in to ICEGATE with your IEC-linked credentials.
- Go to Services → eBRC (under the EDPMS/BRC module).
- Select the shipping bills for which payment has been realized.
- Verify that the linked IRM (Inward Remittance Message) is present for each bill.
- Click Generate eBRC and download the digitally validated certificate.
- Use the eBRC for DGFT benefit claims (RoDTEP, drawback, RCMC reports) and bank reporting.
If the IRM is not auto-linked (buyer paid via a different bank, amount mismatch, or deduction), coordinate with your AD bank to manually map the remittance to the shipping bill before generating the eBRC.

Frequently Asked Questions - eBRC & FEMA
What is the difference between BRC and eBRC?
A BRC is issued by the AD bank as proof of realization; the eBRC is generated electronically on ICEGATE after the IRM is mapped to the shipping bill, and is the standard document for DGFT benefit claims.
Can I claim RoDTEP or drawback without an eBRC?
DGFT systems cross-reference EDPMS/eBRC data before processing benefits. Outstanding EDPMS entries typically block or delay claims, so generating the eBRC promptly is essential.
How do I get an extension for realization?
Apply through your AD bank with supporting documents (dispute letters, amended contracts, bank correspondence). The AD bank can grant extensions under the RBI master direction on export of goods and services.
What if the buyer pays less than the invoice value?
Small differences from banking charges or deductions are normal; provide a reversal letter / adjustment request through the AD bank so the EDPMS entry can be closed. Larger shortfalls may require RBI permission.
What is the difference between BRC, FIRC and eBRC?
A BRC is the bank-issued realization certificate on RBI format, FIRC is the Foreign Inward Remittance Certificate, and eBRC is the electronically generated BRC available on ICEGATE. The guide explains each and the RBI realization timeline.
Are the realization deadlines official?
The guide reflects RBI EDPMS and FEMA rules, including the standard 9-month realization period. Always confirm the exact deadline with your AD bank, as extensions may apply in specific cases.
